Hello, I am Scott Beers, a senior in Glendale's graduating class of 2026. I am excited to be leading the efforts towards restoration of the planetarium and the purchase of a new digital laser projection system. Thank you to everyone who has supported this amazing project so far which has totaled over $20,000 in donations and proceeds from fundraisers! I am proud of the resilient support from the community with my project, and it is my hope to get the planetarium operational by late April or early May 2026! The new planetarium will become an incredibly valuable educational asset to our community and will leave a lasting impact for decades to come. Additional support will continue to be of great help, as it will go towards the purchase of a more advanced projector and equipment, professional software, and seating for the planetarium.

Glendale Planetarium:
Across Generations
Briefly directed by Mr. Harry Fleming, and later Mr. Paul Conway, the Glendale Planetarium has been a staple of our science curriculum. Memories of visiting the planetarium have stretched throughout multiple generations of students. Now under the direction of Mr. Ethan Maneval with the restoration being led by student Scott Beers, we hope to bring back the planetarium in a modern way for many generations of students to come!
The Glendale School District planetarium utilizes a small-medium sized dome built into our school. While the dome itself is in good condition (although it needs to be refinished), the projector system is majorly outdated and within a state of disrepair. Fixed planetarium systems are very rare to have in small school districts like ours, and for many years ours was a staple of our science curriculum. Unfortunately replacement parts are no longer available to make the necessary repairs to our original system from 1969. Our goal is to purchase a new digital projector system to repair the planetarium.
The restoration of the planetarium would provide extensive educational opportunities for students and the community surrounding our district. The new digital planetarium system would allow our students to explore our solar system from various frames of reference, participate in interactive anatomy lessons (yes, anatomy!), Greek mythology, biology, geography, and more. Many former students hold fond memories of visiting the planetarium, and we hope to create many more.
The estimated cost of the new projector system is $34,900. Unfortunately, we do not have the funding to complete the restoration on our own, which is why we are asking for your support!
Any size of donation will help! All personal donations of $20 or more will be engraved on the new planetarium donor plaque which will be displayed in the renovated planetarium. See the donations page for more information.
